Set and Lighting design

Meeting with Matt and Dave - lighting and set

SET

First of all we explained our new developed idea to Matt who heard our older idea from the other week, which he praised and said there were more creative elements we could explore
with our new idea. After several times in our meetings of mentioning a split screen type idea, Matt showed us him recreating a split screen effect video which he made in the media room. It showed him first on the right side standing up, but then another Matt came from the right sides they were both all out having a

conversation together which looked really effective. It is had to do, as even the slightest movement on the camera could ruin the whole shot as both of the shots had to work simultaneously together. He also did it in reverse, so when he dropped his jumper instead it looked like it was flying up to him. Matt suggested we could use both or each effect of having a split screen or filming in reverse to our video with different ways, for example smoking a cigarette (not real of course) but instead the smoke goes in to his mouth instead of blowing it out. For the split screen idea one of the suggestions was that we use Jacob looking

like he is having a conversation with himself, or even singing back and fourth as we could distribute this with each line of the song. The picture above shows a powerful image of people from two different ethnicitys doing the same thing showing as humans we are all the same, which we may use in our video to show Jaco b on the old skool side and the modern side.

LIGHTING

We didn't heavily discuss our lighting as we more needed to understand our set design more, however we do know that we will need to use blonde lights but facing the person to avoid an shadows on the persons face which could make using the split screen difficult. This means as well as the camera angle, the light will not be able to be moved as it would not give the effect that there are two Jacobs, but instead would be easy to see that it was two separate shots. As the colours black and white are both very cool toned colours, we will put paper over the top of the blonde lights to make it more cool toned.
