What is a campaign?
A campaign is an organised series of actions or events which are aimed at achieving a shared set of goals. A record label's aim is to sell as many tour tickets/concert tickets as possible and to try and get people to buy the album itself. As part of this, they try to constuct an identity for there artist which is appealing. I am going to analyse how Liam gallagher is promoted and promotes himself through twitter, instagram, through video and through artwork to communicate a 'bad boy' image.
Originally, Liam Gallagher was singing alongside his brother Noel Gallagher in the band Oasis. The genre of oasis is rock-britpop which reflects on both of the genres each brothers have taken in there solo careers. Oasis was originally based in the brothers home town of Manchester, Liam Gallagher has since moved to North London to carry on his music career, despite the split of the group.
The conventions of Rock bands are typically very 'bad boy' and 'rebellious' reflecting on Liams behaviour, as he is a very controversial popstar. Pictured in this photo for example, the main feature is his body language which is his middle finger on show to the paparazzi which goes with the bad boy image which is perceived when viewing his campaigns. Secondly the type of style he has (big black glasses, casual shirt and messy hair) makes him look quite uncaring and independent, and it is certainly reflected on his social medias that he does not follow social norms or rules in general as he instead says quite controversial and sometimes offensive things from his own opinion, not caring about other peoples opinions.
How does this link to a campaign?
The whole of Liam Gallagher image which he gives across is part of the campaign which represents his characteristics and the types of people that the campaign itself attracts. His alternative, edgy and controversial image is shown through the campaigns on the kinds of music videos he has, his style, his album covers and other ways to advertise and show his image to the public.
This is Liams Why me? Why not. album which was released in 2019, and the cover reflects his general image. Firstly, the cover seems like a record cover giving it a vintage look. Adding to this, the washed out colour or filter on the picture appears very washed out and old which reflects on the kind of music he plays, his face expression also reflects on this as he is frowning which suggests the moody singers attitude which of course is true. The moodiness also implies the rock pop kind of music he plays and produces. The album cover editors have specifically used all of these techniques as a way to promote Liam Gallagher's campaign and introduce new listeners who aren't already fans of the artist (which they should be!) to the kind of person and music Liam produces.
